Excerpt: My son, Riley, sleeps in the only bed in my studio apartment. It’s a new visitation schedule: three consecutive nights a week and one weekend a month. ¶My ex-wife is dating again, so she’s docile. She’s surrendered some of the time she fought so hard for during the divorce. Back then the judge asked Riley what he wanted—a kid, four years old at the time. I got Tuesday evenings as long as I returned him to his mother by 9 p.m. Well, there’s more to it than that, and I probably deserved it. . . .
